Welcome to Maarif Education SocietyMaarif Education Society (MES) is a non profit organisation, founded in 2001 by some of the local residents of Mardan. A small town in northern Pakistan. Its goal is to provide good quality education to very poor communities in the area. A particular focus is the empowerment of women in the domestic and civic arena, through education and employment. BackgroundA vast majority of the population of Pakistan is poor and does not have access to a good formal education. Resources in state-funded schools are meagre and often unable to cope with the demands of the country’s fast growing population (currently around 170 million and growing at a rate of about 1.6% per annum). Maarif SchoolAs a first step forward, Maarif Education Society has started a school, Maarif School. Its curriculum is comparable with those in developed countries such as the USA and UK. The school fees are minimal so that children from very poor backgrounds, who would otherwise have to work to help their struggling families, can also fulfil their dreams of an education. Our EthosMaarif Education Society considers character building and good ethics to be equally as important as academic ambition. In addition to maintaining high academic standards, the school also aims to foster compassion and love for all life on earth, in all the children. |
